News opinion 3

News: Singapore has confirmed another six cases of the H1N1 flu, bringing the total to 40. Three of them are children, aged seven to nine. One of them, a nine-year-old Malaysian boy, had gone to Sydney and Melbourne before coming here for a holiday.
He had developed symptoms while onboard a Jetstar flight (JQ61) from Melbourne (via Darwin) on June 13. He was seated at row 17.

Another child, a seven-year-old girl from Australia, also flew in from Melbourne on Saturday, on Singapore Airlines SQ228 at 21:32 hours. She was seated at row 60.

The third child, an eight-year-old Singapore permanent resident, had gone to the Philippines for a family visit on May 30, and returned on Saturday. Her mother, who was with her, has also been admitted. Both had boarded Singapore Airlines flight SQ915 on June 13 and were seated at row 38 and 39. The mother had developed symptoms before boarding, while the girl became ill during the flight. All four cases were picked up by airport thermal scanners and were sent to the Communicable Disease Centre on 993 ambulances.

The fifth case is a 24-year-old Singaporean off-duty air stewardess who had flown in from Frankfurt on Singapore Airlines SQ25 on June 12, sitting in row 38.
She had developed symptoms while in Frankfurt, but was given the all-clear to fly by a German doctor. Upon arrival in Singapore, she went to a clinic at Changi Airport and was sent to the Communicable Disease Centre via 993 ambulance on the morning of June 14.

The final case is a 19-year-old Singaporean, returning from his holiday in Melbourne on June 12. He had arrived in Melbourne on June 7 and developed symptoms the next day. Upon return to Singapore on SQ238, row 43, he was not detected by airport thermal scanners as he was not feverish then and stayed at home. He was later sent to the CDC via 993 ambulance on the night of June 12

Of the 40 cases so far, 19 had travelled to Melbourne, and another 14 had come from the US. The Health Ministry (MOH) has initiated contact tracing for all six patients. It reminds travellers to refrain from travelling should they have symptoms within 24 hours of their planned departure and to consult a doctor.

Opinion:This situation had gotten from bad to worst. Lots of people flying to singapore had caught the disease.

When the passengers alighted from the plane, they must go to the custom(which i think so to have their temperature taken. I think that this idea is not safe. If the passenger got the virus but pass the custom and got into singapore, the whole singapore will got the disease.sO, I think that all passengers alighted from the plane should be quarantined for at least 5 days to make sure that the person is free from the virus while the passengers who has the symptoms should be quarantined for at least 2 weeks. This is to ensure that sSinagpore is free from H1N1 disease.

During this period, my family avoid going overseas. But going overseas less often won't help, we should also take our temperature regularly and wash our hands regularly. Or when we got back from oversea, we should take the initiative to quarantine oursleves at home.

News opinions(2)

News 1: This year, there are likely to be only three televised fund raisers, down from six or so a year in the glory days before the NKF scandal erupted in 2005.Charities said that with the high costs of staging-about $1million for each show are not confident of pulling in the millions in donations needed to make the event worthwhile.

News opinion(1):I agree that in this gloomy economy, lots of Singaporeans will consider for a while before donating the money to the poor. But, i think that lots of Singaporeans have a kind heart and they definitely will help the unfortunates .But after the NKF incident some people learnt their lesson for trusting the charities and now they don't donate a single cents to the charities. I think what the people did was not right. They should give them a chance and should not judge them at the first incident. In some charity show, the mediacorp artiste risks their lives so that people could donate more money. But some people like Ming Yi Fa Si take that for granted and use their acts to swindle money to buy luxuries for themselves. But some people train very hard to perform dangerous acts to help the unfortunates. I agree that it is hard to know which people is not greedy, but at least we could donate a little moeny and that might help the unfortunates too.

News opinion

News1: Eighteen US soldiers have tested positive for Influenza A (H1N1) flu at an American military base in Kuwait and have left the Gulf emirate.

News2:The number of confirmed H1N1 flu infections around the world stood at 12,022 on Saturday, including 86 deaths, according to the World Health Organisation.

Opinion 1: I think the US goverment did not do his part in ensuring that the citizen is free from the Influenza A (H1N1) flu. The US goverment should remind the citizen to take their temperature once a week and set up advertistment to remind the citizen on having good hygiene
habits like covering their mouth when they sneeze or cough, etc.

Opinion2: The number of deatsh caused by Influenza A (H1N1) flu in increasign and the goverment should take action to stop this virus and ensure that people are free from thsi virus. Like Japan, some schools were closed down because of this virus. I think that people should be considerate and should wear mask or see a doctor when they are ill. People should also wash their hands with soap regularly and take temperature regulary.

news entries(last week)

1)Some outdoors like playground or exercise areas and indoors will be smoke-free next year. With more areas Smoke-free, NEA will double the number of enforcement officer who will issued more warning than fines.

OPINION: I think that it is a good idea for government to make more areas smoke free as many people like me do not want to be second-hand smoker. Inhaling polluted air is not good for our health so more people should kick the habit of smoking to help save the envoirment or prevent global warming.

2) London police has tailed a suspected bomber who try to bomb London and a copy cat for a July's attack. They followed him into a train and shot him 7 times at his head. The London police force tried to defend its act and said that they did that because they wanted to protect public from bomb attack.

OPINIONS: I think that the police should not act recklessly and they should investigate this matter seriously and not to hurt innocent lives. After this matter, I think that the London citizens will not trust the police force anymore.

news entries 3

1)Singaporeans will have to pay 25% less for their electricity bills from January to March next year due to the price of the oil, which have fallen by as much as 40%.

opinions: I think that this is a good news to everyone, especially the low income. I felt that not only the price of electricity should fall, the prices of water, etc should also fall but that is impossible. So I think that the goverment should think about the low income family. The goverment should have given a discount coupon to the low income family like NTUC voucher.

2) Bangkok airport had resumed normal operations on Friday. More that 40 flights had leave the Bangkok's airport. Singapore flights will also resume flights to Bangkok.

opinions: I think it is a good time to us as like I say at the previous news entries, tourists had been trapped in the airport. Now than the Bangkok had resumed flights, toruists can go back to their homelands and meet their family.

News ENTRIES(2)

1) India main capital, Mumbai has been targeted by terrorist. There are 100 people dead and 30 injured. A terrorist had suddenly went into a crowd and shoot at the by-standers.

Opinions: I think that Mumbai's government did not do his job and did not notice that the terrorist had invade Mumbai. Being a government, i think that the government has the responsibility to protect his own country and could manage the country. If the government notice any suspicious people turned up at the country, he should take immediate action and investigate it.

2) Thailand PAD Protester have taken over second airport. Tourists have been trapped in there and could not get out of the airport and have to stay in the airport all the time. The PAD Protester said that this was done to prevent Minister to fly over to Northern city of Changmai to meet with other Prime Minister.

Opinions: I think what the protester had done is wrong. All the people trapped inside the airport must have feel sad as they could not go anywhere and had nothing to eat except for some tidbits, etc but not rice. The tourists are innocent and should not suffered this kind of treatment. This problem also affect Singaporeans as the Singapore airport do not allow Singaporeans to fly over to Vietnam, some of this affected people could not go back to Vietnam to meet their family and some have to cancel their holiday plan.

NEWS ENTRIES(1)

1) Somali pirates had captured the 'super' tanker loaded with US$100M dollars worth of oils. The pirates are demanding only US$25M, for ransom. To avoid piracy, oil tanker avoid the route which had to pass by Somalia.

OPINIONS: I think what the Somali had done was wrong as if it was stealing things from somebody and asking the person to pay in order to get back his belongings. I know that Somali is a part around Africa and were poor. If they were poor, they should get money by working instead of doing bad ways to get money. The oil tanker is worth of US$100 and i think the pirates were stupid to ask for a ransom of US$25 and differences is US$75. The Somali's government should provide the Somali's resident some money and advised them to make their own money instead of piracy. Fortunate peoples like Singaporeans should donate some money to poor countries like Africa.

2) Singapore's goverment will not reduce GST in 2009 Budget. Assistance on man power costs will help companies worker for coping with the crisis.

OPINIONS: For some people, they will be relieved to hear that the GST will no reduce in next year Budget. But for other people, they will be angry to hear it as the goods will cost as expensive as last year. To me i think what the goverment is doing is right. This will remain the prices of the goods as last year. I think that singaporeans should not take things as granted. They should cherish what the goverment had done to help singaporeans manage their money.
